Automatic Segmentation of the Temporal Evolution of Isolated Acoustic Musical Instrument Sounds Using Spectro-Temporal Cues

The videos compare the automatic segmentation proposed in the article with a baseline method that estimates the beginning and end of the attack from the amplitude envelope alone. Each video shows the full-wave rectified waveform (dark grey) outlined by the amplitude envelope (solid light grey) at the top, together with the temporal evolution of the spectral centroid (solid blue).
The red solid vertical lines are the boundaries of the five regions automatically detected by the method we propose in the article, and the dashed light grey lines represent the baseline method. At the bottom of each video, we see the spectrogram of each sound to visually inspect the spectral evolution of the sounds. Most sounds are from the Vienna sound database.
