The Javanese Gamelan
Tuning

About tuning
The instruments of the Gamelan are tuned following two different scales :

The tuning of those scales is different from one Gamelan to another. So all the Gamelans have their specific sound. A complete Gamelan consists of a pair of sets, one tuned in each of the scales. Bellow you can listen to the difference between the tuning of the slendro and the pelog scales of the Sekar Wangi Gamelan of Paris in comparison with the closest tunes in European scale.
