Musical Instrument Timbre Similarity

Goal

Normalize the description of timbre of musical instrument in the framework of the MPEG-7 (ISO/IEC 15938). Starting from perceptual experiment made at Ircam (PCM team), we develop of set of acoustic features allowing to describe the human perception of similarity between two instrumental sounds. The set of audio features (timbre descriptors) allows to estimate what would be the perceived similarity between two instrumental sounds.
