Hi, my name is Geoffroy Peeters, I was born in Belgium, in an old city called Leuven.
University Studies (1991-1995)
I've been studying electrical engineering at the Catholic University of Louvain "U.C.L."
in Louvain-La-Neuve (Belgium), with a special focus on Signal Processing and Satellite Communications. I've also studied this last topic at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome (Italy) (see related publications).
Music
In the meantime, I've also done a lot of music, from classical music (solfa, trumpet), to jazz, experimental music (I play with a very strange fretless bowed or e-bowed midi guitar) and ethnical music. I've been involved in such project as the Rubik's Cube, the Green Onions, Mugwump, Raksha Mancham, Indirra, Monsieur Thomas and now Buka. I'm also learning Javanese Gamelan here in Paris.
Raksha Mancham CD releases: Phyidar (1992), Chös Khor (1993), Ghazels (1994), 1.200.000 Dead Tibetans (1996), s'Bas Yul (1997)
Ircam - Master (1995-1996)
In order to join both passions, sciences and music, I entered IRCAM in 1995 to attend to the courses of the DEA-Master "Acoustique et Traitement Informatique Applique a la Musique" (ATIAM).
During my DEA practical course, I've released a physical model of a sliding-pipe-instrument on the real-time audio platform of IRCAM Max-FTS (see related publications).
Ircam - PhD (1996-2001)
I've done my PhD-thesis at IRCAM on Sound Analysis-Synthesis using both temporal (waveform decomposition) and spectral (sinusoidal basis) models (see related publications) with a method called SINOLA.
Ircam - Work (2001-)
From 1999 to 2001, I've represented Cuidad-Working-Group
(European Esprit Project) in ISO MPEG-7 standard.
From 2001 to 2003, I've been working as a researcher/coordinator for CUIDADO
(European IST Project) in the field of Music Information Retrieval.
SInce 2004, I'm working as a researcher/coordinator for SemanticHIFI (European IST Project)
in the field of Music Information Retrieval.
