Lexicon PCM80
The PCM80 is a rather ageing reverb,that was meant to replace the PCM 70.
It includes 4 preset banks, 3 of them being rather dedicated to special effects
(odd reverbs and chorus, delay etc.).
The fourth bank contains many "classic" reverb presets, which sound
as Lexicon reverbs usually sound : natural, smooth and elegant. This old model
is as Lexicon like as the newest ones.
When it comes to less classic applications, this unit is a little less interesting - unless you really like underwater ambiences. Some beautiful chorus/reverb combos, though. And the phaser / flanger effects are very good.
The PCM80 has now a successor : the PCM81.
In 2001, the PCM80 is generally sold between $1500 and $2000.

TC Electronic M3000
The M3000 is a reverb processor rather than a multieffect : it includes 475 reverb presets and 25 other effect presets (chorus, flange, EQ, compression).
A M3000 contains 2 reverb processors, that can be routed in several ways
(cascade, serial, dual input, linked...)
But there is one stereo input / output only.
Six distinct alogrithms are available for reverb presets : VSS, VSS Gate, VSS FP & VSS SR, as well as REV3 and C.O.R.E.
VSS stands for "Virtual Space Simulator", FP for "Film Postproduction" et SR for "SurRound".
The VSS algo is the classic type, and leads to rather classic reverb types.
VSS Gate, is plain VSS, but gated.
The VSS FP algos are interesting, for they rather succeed in emulating unusual
spaces such as cars, wardrobes, living rooms...
The VSS SR algo is a surround version of the standard VSS. Audio output is
still in two channels, but Dolby SR encoded.
The very few REV3 and CORE presets are actually some kind of M5000 previews,
these algos being more extensively used in the high end, expensive M5000 unit.

Lexicon MPX1
The Lexicon MPX1 is a multi effect unit.
It includes a lot of different effects such as chorus, pitch,
delays...
Only 40 presets out of the 200 that are available are pure reverb presets.
Each preset is a combination of six processing stages : pitch,
chorus, EQ, modulation, delay and reverb.
Even reverb presets always includes delays and EQ besides the reverb algorithm.
There are 5 reverbs algorithms : hall, ambience chamber, plate, and gate.
These algorithms are very flexible : for example, the "Cathedral"
preset is not based on the hall alg., but on the chamber one.
In 2002, the Lexicon MPX1 cost is ca. $1200.
