The one-day Musical Constraints Workshop will take place at Paphos, Cyprus, during the Seventh International Conference on Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming CP-2001, Nov 26 - Dec 1, 2001.
Important dates.
Sep 14, 2001 - Deadline for paper submission.
Oct 5, 2001 - Notification of acceptance.
Oct 10, 2001 - Camera-ready copies of papers.
Dec 1, 2001 - Workshop at CP'2001.
Scope.
The aim of this workshop is to present recent works dealing with constraint programming applied to music.
Musical applications of computer science include: compositional tools and languages, musical sound analysis, synthesis and processing, instrumental gesture modeling, musical information retrieval, etc. Constraint programming (CP) issues related to these topics include: constraint resolution methods, representations, languages and interfaces as adapted to musical problems.
It is clear that music benefits from CP. Maybe less obvious is the benefit for the CP community. One can consider that music states difficult and unusual problems, that are challenging for the CP community. Furthermore many of the constraints systems designed for musical purposes have integrated CP techniques in a very original way, because of the musical particularities. Some musical constraints systems give original issues in problem modeling, human interface issues, specific programming tools, etc. Thus, this workshop should also be of interest for the constraint community in general.
Topics.
Topics of interest include Constraint Programming applied to:
- composition tools and languages
- musical sound analysis, synthesis and processing
- instrumental gesture modeling
- musical information retrieval
- sound spatialization
- musical constraint languages
- automatic harmonization
- musical analysis
- others ...
Submissions.
The program committee invites submissions of papers, no longer than 8 pages. Eventually, submission of extended abstracts will be considered.
Please submit PostScript file or RTF documents to Charlotte.Truchet@ircam.fr
Papers will be examined by two reviewers. The reviewing process will be anonymous. We ask for original papers, not yet published in any constraint or music conference / journal, or being considered.
Accepted papers must be presented during the Workshop (30 minutes). The workshop program will be ready on Oct 15, 2001.
For further information contact the workshop organizers.
