9 Conclusion
The year 2002 saw the fruition of the two years of research and development on
score following.
Due to the integration of new features for the singing voice,
the extension to polyphonic scores and performances for Midi score following,
and, last but not least, the close and fruitful collaboration between research,
development, and creation, with the complementary skills of the diverse
collaborators, the jMax objects are now mature enough to be used in a concert
situation, and Max/MSP objects are not far away.
Other promising artistic projects are in the planning stage.
Because of the groundwork on statistical analysis that has been laid this year,
the research on improving the versatility and robustness of score following by
training can start 2003.
The collaboration with Nicola Orio on the scientific side was very effective.
It proved most efficient to have regular dates for Nicola to be in Paris, and
regular communication by e-mail. Nicola Orio is going to pursue the research
also in Padua, with the help of an intern from the university.
We think that now is the moment for a wider diffusion of the score following
tools for use in musical productions, and also for publication of the results
of our research in scientific conferences and journals.
