Expressive speech synthesis

Goal of this subjective test

This test is designed to evaluate different methods of speech synthesis. The language of the utterances used in this test will be French so it is rather preferable that you are a French speaker (but not necessary a native one).

You will be asked to compare pairs of speech utterances and to evaluate their naturalness in both terms of timbre quality and general prosody (intonation, speech rate, etc.).

For each pair of recordings, listen to them, then select one button depending on your preference about the overall quality of the sounds:

  • If the left recording is much better than the right one, select the most left button (+3).
  • If the left recording is better than the right one, select the second button (+2).
  • If the left recording is slightly better than the right one, select the third button (+1).
  • If the two recordings are about the same, select the middle button (0).

... and the same on the other way.

It should take you between 10 and 15 minutes to complete the test.
