Gestural controller interface design

We rewrite here 10 remarks proposed by J. Pressing [5] for the design of a gestural interface:

1) Physical variables carrying the information (relative/absolute position, force, velocity, acceleration, etc.);

2) Dimensionality of control (degrees of freedom);

3) Multiplicity of control (number of parallel control variables);

4) Control modality (discrete/continuous);

5) Control monitoring (one-shot or continuous time, holds last value or returns to nominal value, sequential or "skip-out" the continuum output, etc.); 12

6) Control distance function (monotonic, non-monotonic, uni/bipolar, etc.);

7) Literalness of control (mapping);

8) Historical foundations (design context);

9) Design appropriateness (efficiency, ergonomics, etc.);

10) Psychological nature of control (causality, exploratory or goal-oriented control);
