Wearable piezoresistive fabrics for monitoring human body kinematics, by D. de Rossi, A. Della Santa, A. Mazzoldi and V. Tinucci

Abstract:

Polymeric semiconductors in form of spun fibers and fiber coatings posses electromechanical transduction properties suitable for the implementation of smart fabrics incorporating distributed strain and temperature sensors and contractile actuators. In addition, ``all-polymer'' flexible devices acting as active electronic components (transistors) have been recently disclosed, making eventually possible the implementation of processing functions onto fabric substrates. The key elements to realize sensorized fabrics systems are, so, at reach in a form which consents their integration onto wearable garments.
